Running to the Goal

This blog is about creating confidence. It's about creating goals and achieving them. It's about being the best you, you possibly can be.

I'm including this page to track my goal of running- and I encourage everyone to share their goals and what they hope to achieve some day, even if it's "just a dream" for now.

Running.

If you would have asked me even a year ago about running, I would have laughed at you. I hated running, and I also said it was something I just wasn't good at. To do my cardio, I would spend 30 or 45 minutes on an eleptical machine and call it a day. I ran two 5k's in college, but other than that- running was not something I wanted to do- ever.

Sometime around August of last year, I started Crossfit classes that always involved some kind of running- I hated it. I hated that I was so bad at the running part, but it made sense to me. These athletes had so much endurance because they could run, and it reflected in their other physical activities as well. After running 100m I was feeling nauseous and I decided that had to go.

Tah-Dah. I discovered the Nike Running App.

At first I just wanted to see what distance I could do for my run that day, and just have a way to keep track of everything. After the first few uses, I was hooked. I started using it several times a week, just running a mile or so (remember I was am no runner). Several months into it, after a 5 mile run and a few glasses of wine and wondering what the heck I was doing all this running for if I didn't have a goal in mind- I signed up for my first 10k. On a trail. That's 6.2 miles...the next few days I debated not doing it..but then i figured what's the worst that could happen?

From that point on, I decided I was going to make a personal goal to run at least a 5k race every month. And what do you know, my first 10k, I placed overall top female 20-29.
